Thank you from your winner, Alex

alexanderpool-wThank you all so much. I’m a Scientist Get Me Out of Here was a truly fantastic thing to be a part of.

It’s a bit weird coming into the lab now and not logging in to see the amazing questions that were being asked. Being part of the Europium General Zone meant we got asked questions ranging from cannibalism to string theory and cancer – so it was definitely a challenge for us to answer some of them, but that was also the best bit! Science is a permanent learning curve, so having to learn about black holes, string theory, crying underwater were all bits that I had no idea about before, and shows how amazing science is.

The live chats were a fantastic chance for us to answer your questions, and I really hope you found them all useful. We’ve never had to type so quickly in our lives to try and get through all the questions.

Hard to say what the best bits were, the whole experience was great. Getting to see what the other scientists were up to, and the huge range of questions made my day every time I logged on.

A huge thank you needs to go to the other scientists who all put in a huge amount of work. And it’s a shame that only one person could win. Also thank you to all of the students and teachers who logged back in each day to ask new questions and keep voting. Waiting for the final vote at 3pm on the Friday was completely nerve racking – my office was laughing at how tense it got.

The money itself will be spent on a project we run here where school students come here for a week over Summer to learn about how we research cancer. It’s a fantastic project and the money means we can have more students than we’ve ever had before which is brilliant.
