      Well it depends on how far into the future you’re asking about. You may have heard about Moore’s law, which shows that the transistor chip density in computing hardware doubles every two years, well there is a similar law (Kryder’s law) for storage density (or memory) which is increasing at a much faster rate than Moore’s law.
      This law has predicted that in 2020, a 2.5 inch hard disk drive will be able to store more than 40 terabytes!

      Hard drives are typically used as memory in PCs, however not in phones. One new technology that may be used in phones in the future is something called resistive random access memory (RRAM), which is being developed by a few technology companies at the moment. In 2013, it was shown that a RRAM chip the size of a postage stamp could hold 1 terabyte of data, which is incredible!
