1 Question: What does it take to be a scientist? Keywords: advice, career, education Asked by Ksr_x to Alex, Ali, Kerry, Philip, Theo on 8 Nov 2014.
Alison Thomson answered on 8 Nov 2014:
A bit of everything really, but mostly determination – just like everything else in life! You need lots of enthusiasm, original ideas, and (unfortunately) someone with a lot of money who’s willing to pay for your research!
Kerry O'Shea answered on 10 Nov 2014:
I agree with Alison, it definitely takes hard work! One thing I wanted to add is that it helps to have a curious mind and to question everything!
Alex Pool answered on 10 Nov 2014:
Agree with both Alison and Kerry – hard work and being really nosey about the world, and wanting to understand it.
Ali commented on 8 Nov 2014:
It comes from the Latin ‘scienta’ which means ‘knowledge’ Good question!
