Mostly it’s a matter of the time it’d take for us to get there and the supplies we’d need. We can send satellites and probes further out as they’re small. But to put a human up there you’d need a much bigger ship that contains oxygen and food, plus places to sleep, go to the toilet etc. So that makes it a lot harder. Also to get anywhere beyond the moon and back takes a long time as they’re so far away so people would age a lot. Which is why we’ve only been able to make it to the moon so far.

The next place to go would be mars, and that is vastly further away from us than the moon is, meaning we’d need a lot more money, and loads more resources! Also, we’d have to make plans for when we got there – i.e. we’d need oxygen, and enough fuel to make it home again. And that entire journey would take a long time – the majority of someone’s life, which means we’d have to find someone willing to spend their entire life going to mars! I don’t think I’d be volunteering for that!
